Danica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racer. She is the most successful woman ever to compete in American open-wheel racing. Her victory at the 2008 Indy Japan 300 is the sole win for a woman at the history of an IndyCar Series race.Born to a working class family in Beloit, Wisconsin, Patrick started karting at the age of 10 and gained early success when she won her class at the World Karting Association Grand National Championship three times in the late 1990s. In 1998, she dropped out of high school and relocated to England in order to pursue her career. Patrick participated in Formula Vauxhall and Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001 due to a lack of funds. In 2002, she raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races for Rahal Letterman Racing. Patrick was an official Toyota Atlantic Series racer for the next two seasons.
